Plus Size Celebrity News: Elle Magazine is back in hot water again after yet another magazine cover bungle. Last time they copped it for their Women in Hollywood issue when plus size celebrity Melissa McCarthy was featured  wearing ‘that’ grey coat engulfing her body.

This time it’s Mindy Kaling’s cover in the Women in TV issue that’s caused controversy. Just like Melissa McCarthy, Mindy is one of four women to have their own cover on Elle in a set of covers including actresses Amy Poehler, Zooey Deschanel and Allison Williams. However the other three actresses (who closer fit the Hollywood mold) all had full body shot color covers. Unlike Mindy, whose body is cropped out and her cover is in black and white. Why? Is this racial, a weight issue or just trying to be artsy?

The Gloss pointed out how Kaling talked so eloquently about how her weight is perceived in Hollywood, telling NPR back in 2011:

Since I am not model-skinny, but also not super-fat and fabulously owning my hugeness, I fall into that nebulous, “Normal American Woman Size” that legions of fashion stylists detest. For the record, I’m a size 8 (this week, anyway). Many stylists hate that size because, I think, to them, I lack the self-discipline to be an aesthetic, or the sassy, confidence to be a total fatty hedonist. They’re like “Pick a lane.”

The four Elle Magazine covers are released as a set so why is Mindy Kaling’s so different and the odd one out?

Despite the controversy, Mindy Kaling took to Twitter to defend the Elle Magazine cover:

Elle Magazine re-tweeted Mindy Kaling’s clever Tweet and in a statement said, “Mindy looks sexy, beautiful and chic. We think it is a striking and sophisticated cover and are thrilled to celebrate her in our Women in TV Issue.”

Case closed? Maybe personally for Mindy Kaling but the uproar says a lot about what the public want to see in their plus size celebrity role models. Personally with her fun personality and beauty I would have loved to have seen her absolutely own her first cover. What do you think? Did Mindy get a raw deal?
