We all have curvy girls in our lives whether they are our friends, daughters, mothers, sisters, aunts, girlfriends or wives. Sure, you can make a one-size-fits-all purchase buying perfume, chocolates or a calendar. However, other items may need a bit of pre-planning and investigation before you charge the credit card, wrap it up and put it under the tree.  Yes, it’s the thought that counts and a personally chosen gift is always preferable to a gift card so wouldn’t it be nice if what you bought fit perfectly on Christmas morning! Here are some considerations before you battle it out at the shops.

Most things on us big girls are…well…big! So if you’re planning on buying rings this Christmas you might want to consider getting the size right first. Remember our fingers are going to be bigger in summer so you’ll need to allow for that. If you’re getting the size from a ring she already owns make sure she’s worn it recently otherwise you’ll end up with a size that fit three years ago. If you’re going for costume jewelry you can get fun bright stretchy ones from most accessory stores.

Necklaces are usually a safe bet but some plus-size women prefer a longer chain. Observation and good detective work will give you the answers you need before you hit the shops.

I like silver bracelets and generally choose a ‘cuff’ that can be bent to open and close it. Depending on wrist size, again, you might need a chunkier and longer design for some girls. Consult your jewelers’ range on this one as you might need extra links put in.

If you live together, rummaging through her ‘undies drawer’ when she’s not looking could work to find out sizing, but be warned, you never know what you’ll so enter at your own risk. Some things you just can’t un-see! Make note of the brands and styles as sizes always differ.

My Granny likes to buy me ‘useful gifts’ so I still get undies under the tree from her. However, if your man gives you a five pack of Target briefs this Chrissy you should be worried.

Width can be an issue when it comes to buying big girl shoes. Personally, I’m a very difficult fit so unless it’s a pair of Haviana Thongs this is a no-go zone for me. Some lucky women are a straight size in which case go for it!

Plus-size shops are always good if you don’t know the sizes and style to get. Again, you might want to do some closet investigation or asking around to get the store she likes.
