I love a good Melissa McCarthy red carpet moment and seeing her wearing some awesome clothes and representing us plus size gals but something seems to go wrong. As soon as it’s a big time awards show red carpet her stylist must go on vacay because the fashion game isn’t always up to scratch (even though we’ve seen her looking dazzling many times.) No wonder she decided to do her own fashion line! Did you know she originally went to school for design before deciding to ditch it for acting? Here’s what she said back in an interview with Redbook,
A Famous Melissa McCarthy Red Carpet Fashion Snub
“I asked five or six designers–very high-level ones who make lots of dresses for people–and they all said no,” McCarthy of the year she was nominated for Best Supporting Actress for “Bridesmaids.”
Here’s a look back at those Melissa Mccarthy red carpet moments!
2015 Golden Globes
Melissa told E!’s Giuliana Rancic that her gown is ‘ ‘like a chop shop,’ after assembling ‘the weird project’ from other pieces in her closet. She probably had to do this DIY ensemble based on all the designers knocking her back and the disasters they’d previously served up to her. She looks fantastic in this look! The key to the success of this look is that it’s not one solid heavy block of color. Love it!
2014 Golden Globes
This custom gown was a collaboration between herself, seamstress Daniela Kurrle, and stylist George Kotsiopoulos with a Jimmy Choo Bag.
She got a worst dress nomination from e online in this red carpet disaster! This is a custom David Meister gown. She’s gorgeous but the dress isn’t. Let’s just say this isn’t the best Melissa McCarthy red carpet look (probably the worst.) I haven’t come across a single person with a good thing to say about this dress. Personally I would have refused to have left the house and called in sick if I had to wear this? Leave your thoughts below in the comments.
This is a Marchesa black ball-gown featuring a tulle skirt, panel of jet crystals, sequins and re-embroidered lace nipping in her waist. The look is styled with a Jimmy Choo ‘Cosma’ clutch and noir manicure.
Marina Rinaldi from the ready-to-wear plus line available in as Bloomingdale’s or Saks giving a very different Melissa McCarthy red carpet than we are used to seeing. What are your thoughts on this one? Comment below.
“Trying to find stuff that’s still fashion-forward in my size is damn near impossible,” Melissa said to the Hollywood Reporter. “It’s either for like a 98-year-old woman or a 14-year-old hooker, and there is nothing in the middle.” Here she is wearing Daniella Pearl (I’m guessing this is the 98-year-old woman end of the spectrum.) The color looks great on her though!
2015 Entertainment Weekly Cover
This is not a Melissa McCarthy red carpet look but as a side note I think Melissa looks amazing on this Entertainment Weekly magazine cover. I’d love to see her red carpet looks more along these lines and have a feeling that this is the way she is headed with her style. Can’t wait to see her shine!
