Why are there no plus size leading ladies in romantic comedies? Why are we always the sidekick or fat and funny friend? The Project Curvy Girl Movie Star project is set to change the perception that fat girls can’t be sexy and get the ‘hot’ guy.
This episode I interview Michael Elliot who is the accomplished screenwriter behind Carmen: A Hip-Hopera (Beyonce), Like Mike (Lil’ Bow Wow), Brown Sugar (Taye Diggs) and Just Wright (Queen Latifah.) He wants to change the state of the movie industry by launching a crowd funded movie to show Hollywood what audiences want and what can be achieved.
Michael is no stranger to entrepreneurship, creativity and hard work. He is the recipient of the 2011 NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Writing in a Motion Pictures and has appeared on ABC’s show Shark Tank pitching his Hammer and Nails business.
This episode is a great conversation about the state of the industry, perception, and what it will take to make Project Curvy Girl Movie Star happen and how you can be involved in the process.
